StudyCareer ("we," "us," or "our") operates StudyCareer Japan (the "Site"), an informational platform about studying and working in Japan.

We minimize data collection. Here is what we may collect and why:

Data you provide directly

When you use our interactive tools (Career Readiness Check, HSP Calculator, Cost Simulator, etc.), you may input personal information such as education level, language proficiency, and career goals. This data is processed in your browser only and is not stored on our servers. It is discarded when you close the page.

If you contact us by email, we retain your message and contact details to respond to your inquiry.

Data collected automatically

We may collect standard web analytics data including: pages visited, time spent, referring URL, browser type, device type, and approximate geographic location (country/region level). This data is collected in aggregate form and does not identify you personally.

3. How we use your data

• To provide and improve the Site and its tools
• To understand how visitors use the Site (analytics)

4. Automated profiling disclosure

The Career Readiness Check tool processes information you input (such as education level, university tier, major, language proficiency, and target career) to generate a self-assessment result. This constitutes automated profiling under GDPR Article 4(4).

Important details about this profiling:

• All processing occurs in your browser — no personal data is sent to or stored on our servers
• Results are general self-assessment indicators, not predictions or professional evaluations
• The scoring methodology uses weighted factors based on aggregated, anonymized employment patterns
• No decisions with legal or similarly significant effects are made based on this profiling
• You may choose not to use this tool at any time

You have the right to object to this profiling under GDPR Article 21. Since the tool processes data entirely in your browser without server storage, the simplest way to exercise this right is to not use the tool.

5. Cookies

The Site may use cookies for essential functionality and analytics. Essential cookies are necessary for the Site to function properly. Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors use the Site.

You can control cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some Site functionality.

6. Data hosting and international transfers

The Site is hosted on Vercel, Inc. (United States). If you access the Site from outside the United States, your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States. Interactive tool inputs: Not stored (processed in browser only, discarded on page close). Analytics data: Retained in aggregate form for up to 26 months. Email correspondence: Retained as long as necessary to resolve your inquiry, then deleted.

9. Employment data

The Site displays aggregated, anonymized employment pattern data. This data does not contain names, contact information, or other directly identifying information of any individual. Company names and university names are excluded from this dataset.

10. Children's privacy

The Site is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
