“Top-Tier Visa” in South Korea

In April 2025, the Korean Ministry of Justice announced the introduction of a new “Top-Tier Visa”.

The purpose of this visa is to provide incentives that encourage highly competitive global talent to settle in Korea.

The key details are as follows:


Eligibility for the Top-Tier Visa

(1) Education
. A master’s or doctoral degree from a university ranked within the global top 100

(2) Work Experience
. 8+ years of professional experience, including 3+ years at a global 500 company; or
. 5+ years of post-doctoral experience, including 3+ years at a world-class research institution

(3) Income
. Annual earned income of at least 3 times Korea’s GNI per capita (approximately KRW 150 Mil (USD 110,000+)

Industry Requirement

(1) Applicants must meet all three criteria above and plan to work in one of Korea’s advanced industries as follows:

Semiconductor, display, secondary battery, and biotechnology

(2) There are plans to expand eligibility to additional sectors such as:
Robotics and defense industries

Benefits for Top-Tier Talent
Successful applicants receive the following benefits:

(1) F-2 (residency) visa for both the applicant and their family (spouse and minor children), allowing free employment and long-term residence
(2) Eligibility for permanent residency after 3 years
(3) Fast-track visa issuance without visiting overseas Korean consulates
(4) Permission to invite parents and domestic helpers
(5) Priority immigration cards for expedited entry and exit

This program is linked to the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy’s “K-Tech Pass" program.

K-Tech Pass Benefits
(1) Up to 50% reduction in earned income tax for a maximum of 10 years
(2) Permission for children to enroll in international schools beyond standard foreign student quotas
(3) Expansion of housing loan limits to match those available to Korean nationals (KRW 200 ~ 500 Mil.)
(4) Support service for administrative process, such as banking, telecom setup, and residency registration

Even before securing employment, applicants can enter Korea under a D-10 (Job-Seeker Visa) to freely explore job opportunities.
